To fake rice smugglers: you’ve been warned!
Davao City mayor Rodrigo Duterte apparently threatened to make smugglers eat all their fake rice in possession from China if they tried bringing it in the country, according to local reports.
Well that’s a scary thought!
According to reports, fake rice from China is being exported to countries like Indonesia and Vietnam, and is made of potato, sweet potato and synthetic resin.
Uncooked fake rice has the same look and texture as of real rice, so it can be very hard to detect, according to reports.
Duterte reportedly said “If you get caught with 200 tons of fake rice, I’ll give you 24 hours to consume it all” on his weekly show Gikan sa Masa, Para sa Masa.
The National Food Authority however said that there was no indication that fake rice has been brought in the country.
