It’s a good time for drag in the Philippines as two series focusing on the art form have been recognized as national winners at the Asian Academy Creative Awards 2023.

Drag Den was awarded Best Non-Scripted Entertainment, while its host, Manila Luzon, was recognized as Best Entertainment Host.

Drag You & Me, meanwhile, was dubbed Best Production by a Streamer/OTT.

The Asian Academy Creative Awards celebrates excellence in the content industry from 17 countries in the Asia Pacific region. Singapore hosts the annual Asian Academy Creative Awards every December for the Grand Awards and Gala Final.

Drag excellence

In Drag Den, “Drag Lord” Manila Luzon, together with her “drag dealer” Nicole Cordovez and “drag runner” Sassa Gurl, welcome eight aspiring queens as they embark on an eight-week competition showcasing their wit, talent, and beauty to become the first Pinoy drag supreme.

NAIA was crowned the pilot season’s winner, with Shewarma and Maria Christina as the first runner-up and second runner-up respectively.

In Drag You & Me, a cisgender woman joins the country’s most prestigious drag competition to save her family’s home and drag comedy bar from repossession. Complications arise when she falls for her fiercest rival.

The series stars Andrea Brillantes, JC Alcantara, and Christian Bables.

Drag Den streams on Prime Video, while Drag You & Me is available on YouTube.
