In a statement, the agency said the EDSA busway is “one of the most efficient” public transport systems in Manila.
“The Department of Transportation (DOTr) believes the EDSA busway continues to be one of the most efficient public road transport systems in Metro Manila,” the statement read.
The DOTr emphasized that the EDSA Busway served over 63 million commuters in 2024 and more than 5.5 million commuters in January 2025 alone, with an average of 177,000 daily passengers.
“The EDSA busway is seen as a crucial step towards a progressive public transportation system with 23 stations operating 24/7, affording commuters a safe and reliable option for transport,” it added.

The agency also shared that Transportation Chief Jaime Bautista is waiting for the result of the feasibility study on how to improve the EDSA busway.
“Secretary Jaime J. Bautista is waiting for the result of the feasibility study on how best to improve the EDSA Busway, tapping private sector technical and financial expertise. The goal is to improve the commuter experience without worsening existing traffic conditions,” it noted, reiterating that the suggestion to open the bike lanes for mixed use with motorcycles should be studied further.
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA)ย recently revealed the possibility of removing the EDSA busway if the MRT capacity increases.
