Dolly de Leon has done it again.
The actress has scored another acting nomination, this time for the British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA). She was nominated in the Supporting Actress category for her role in Triangle of Sadness.
De Leon will compete against Angela Bassett (Black Panther: Wakanda Forever), Hong Chau (The Whale), Kerry Condon (The Banshees of Inisherin), Jamie Lee Curtis (Everything Everywhere All At Once), and Carey Mulligan (She Said).
Previously, the actress was nominated for Best Supporting Actress at the Golden Globe Awards, becoming the first Filipino to be nominated in the award-giving body. She was also awarded Best Supporting Performer at the Los Angeles Film Critics Association.
Triangle of Sadness
Here’s how Triangle of Sadness is described: “social hierarchy is turned upside down, revealing the tawdry relationship between power and beauty. Celebrity model couple, Carl (Harris Dickinson) and Yaya (Charlbi Dean), are invited on a luxury cruise for the uber-rich, helmed by an unhinged boat captain (Woody Harrelson). What first appeared Instagrammable ends catastrophically, leaving the survivors stranded on a desert island and fighting for survival.”
Triangle of Sadness won the Palme d’Or at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival. It is the highest prize awarded in one of the “Big Five” major international film festivals.
De Leon plays Abigail, a mild-mannered toilet manager who becomes a survivalist and team leader. The actress has earned praise for her role, with Variety saying that “her every line has so far prompted cheers in press and public screenings alike.” It adds that she “doesn’t get very far in Cannes without being stopped in the street by enthusiastic fans.”
