Doctor Living in Quezon City Tests Positive for COVID-19

Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte announced a newly-confirmed coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) case in their city. She reported that the concerned individual is a practicing doctor which would make it the first reported case of infection of medical personnel in the Philippines.

(DOH Announces 16 More COVID-19 Cases)

Belmonte reported to CNN Philippines through a text message that the patient is a 27-year-old doctor who was supposedly treating a COVID-19 patient. However, Belmonte would not disclose the name of the hospital where the doctor works.

The Department of Health stated during its press briefing the absence of any reports of hospital-acquired infections of the virus that causes COVID-19. Therefore it is unclear whether this case from Quezon City is already included in the Health Department’s total tally of 49 cases.

This case brings the total number of cases in Quezon City up to 4. The DOH seeks to remind the public to remain calm and practice precautionary measures against the virus.
