Director Dan Villegas revealed that among his plans for the future is hopefully a live adaptation of Filipino comic book author Arnold Arre’s “After Eden” if given the chance.
The “Exes Baggage” director revealed this to press members during a media conference at the Netflix Philippines office last September 18, 2023, when asked about which Filipino-based story or local comic book he would want to adapt in the future given the recent success of the live-action adaptation of “One Piece.”
“Dream ko talaga i-adapt ‘yung “After Eden” [ni Arnold Arre] matagal na,” he said in response. “Ever since parang super I loved that book. Actually super fan ako ni Arnold. It’s one of the books na habang binabasa ko parang na-feel ko na lang na tumutulo na luha ko ‘dun sa page.”
“After Eden” is Arnold Arre’s comic book published in 2002 that tells the story of two childhood friends who fall in love but are being pulled apart by their respective friend groups while also being tested by meddling angels and demons.
“College pa lang ako [20 years ago], dream [project] ko na ‘yun gawing pelikula. So ‘yun talaga ‘yung dream ko,” added Director Villegas.
He is currently focusing on the premiere of his latest original series with Netflix produced by Antoinette Jadaone titled “Replacing Chef Chico” which stars Alessandra De Rossi, Sam Milby, and Piolo Pascual.
While we can’t wait for that gastronomic show to be released, we likewise can hardly contain our excitement for an “After Eden” live-action adaptation to come true! We’ll definitely be crossing our fingers!
