10 Years of Flavor: What Made This Year’s Davao Culinary Cup a Must-See

Davao’s premier culinary event returned this year with a flavorful twist. The Davao Culinary Cup 2025, now on its 10th year, trades its usual inter-school competition format for a lineup of nine celebrated chefs from across the Philippines. This milestone edition is all about celebrating culinary growth, creativity, and community.

A Milestone Year for a Growing Culinary Scene

Since its debut, the Davao Culinary Cup has been a breeding ground for young talent, particularly students from local culinary schools. But this year’s pivot toward professional showcases signals a bigger purpose: elevating the region’s culinary identity on a national stage.

The participation of LTB Philippines Davao Chapter, led by founding president Salome San Jose, continues to shape how the local culinary community connects and learns. Over the years, LTB has helped Davao chefs and educators gain exposure through events like the WorldChefs Congress in Singapore, an experience that highlighted both how far the city has come and how much more potential there is to unlock.

One of the biggest insights this year is how much culinary education in Davao is evolving. According to Chef Bambi of Le Culinaire, international exposure has shown local institutions that there’s more room for growth; whether it’s in technique, efficiency, or flavor development.

That’s why the Culinary Cup remains more than an event. It’s a benchmark. It pushes both students and educators to refine their craft and aim higher, while also spotlighting Davao’s growing culinary footprint in the Philippines.

Simpler Format, Stronger Impact

Held at SM Lanang on May 22 and 23, the 2025 edition is designed to be more accessible and experiential. Without the pressure of competition, the event puts the spotlight on skill, creativity, and storytelling through food. Each live cooking demonstration is an opportunity for aspiring chefs, hobbyists, and curious foodies to learn straight from some of the country’s best.

The simpler format also makes room for more meaningful conversations—about where Davao’s food scene is headed and what it takes to keep up with the ever-evolving culinary world.

This year, the Davao Culinary Cup isn’t just a showcase—it’s a celebration of how far Davao’s culinary industry has come in the last decade. With a simpler format and a star-studded lineup, it’s the perfect mix of inspiration and education.
