Toni Gonzaga is going to star in a new movie with Filipino-American actor Dante Basco (aka “Avatar: The Last Airbender’s” Prince Zuko) and we absolutely cannot wait!
The actress was revealed to be part of the official cast of the US-based film “Asian Persuasion” through an Instagram post on the movie’s page. “Meet our lead cast!” the post read as it introduced Dante’s and Toni’s characters.
Dante and Toni will be playing Mickey and Avery who are a divorced Asian American couple who live in New York City. Mickey, a slacker, owns a run-down coffee shop in Queens after letting go of his dream to be a fine-dining chef due to his parents’ sudden death while he was still in college. Meanwhile, Avery is a career-driven woman who owns a fashion design business in the Lower East Side. The film will follow Mickey who schemes to get Avery to marry someone else just so he could avoid giving her financial support that he cannot afford.
What’s exciting about this film is that it will feature original songs performed by Asian American artists while the musical score will be composed by Filipino American record producer Illmind!
“Asian Persuasion” will be directed and produced by Tony Award-winning theatrical producer Jhett Tolentino and written by Mike Ang. The two hope that this movie will be able to “elevate the Asian narrative” amid all the hate crimes against the Asian-American community that have been going on as of late. It will begin shooting in 2022.
