LOOK: Customs Officer Writes “F*ck You” On Chinese Passport

Because of on-going tension between China and Southeast Asian countries, a viral post from 2016 has resurfaced. While going through the security at Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam, a Chinese woman handed her passport to a customs officer and was surprised to see the words “f*ck you” written on it when it was returned to her.

The piece of profanity was scribbled on two pages containing maps of China, complete with the infamous nine-dash line. This symbol is used by China to exert its claim over the South China Sea (West Philippine Sea). According to Shanghaiist.com, Chinese passports issued after 2012 have this map on a couple of its pages.

The woman didn’t speak any Vietnamese and was unable to respond to the customs officer. According to a report by Sohu, she said that she will apply for a new passport once she gets back to China.

Meanwhile, the Chinese Consulate in Ho Chi Minh released a statement reporting that they will demand that Vietnamese officials take action to punish whoever was responsible. They also promised to make sure that this incident will never happen again.
