Commune : Great Filipino Food In The Heart of Makati

When In Manila, the best business ideas come out from a desire to fill a certain need. What I’m talking about here are those times when you find yourself in a place like a central business district and you suddenly crave good ‘ol Filipino home-cooked food in an easy to reach nice ambiance – and you just can’t find it.  Ergo, one of the reasons for the existence of  Commune.

In the heart of Makati, where different cuisines and cafes abound, lies one that stands out amongst the other commercial cafes there. The charm lies in the food that comes alongside its relaxed ambiance.

The moment you step in, you know that attention was put into the details as it draws your eyes towards the artwork and the walls, books on the shelves, and all sorts of knick-knacks. It’s really too cute not to instagram it. Good tactic as the owner, Ros Juan, is also a digital and social media strategist who also holds Tweetups here.

It was lunchtime and we immediately saw that it is already a favourite among those working in the area. It was filled with a nice kind of buzz where people were just eating & talking in a relaxed kind of way. Pretty much in-tune to the name of the cafe – Commune – which means to talk over, discuss and communicate intimately.

The menu is basically divided into All Day Breakfast, Pinoy dishes, and cafe food with a Pinoy twist. Talk about a triple decker clubhouse on malunggay wheat bread, Chicken Adobo sa Gata and Sinigang na Baboy. Ros’ brother also owns Binalot and comes from an entreprenerial family who loves to cook so you know that the quality would really be down-right Filipino.
