Under the Environment and Climate category, six destinations were chosen as finalists by the jury at Green Destinations. These include Gocta – Kuelap Amazonas in Peru, Club Paradise Palawan in the Philippines, Tartu in Estonia, Tibau do Sul in Brazile, Margaret River in Australia, and Terres de L’ebre in Spain. Club Paradise Palawan, the only Philippine property in the Green Destinations Top 100 list, received 2nd place, with Margaret River taking 3rd and Terres de L’ebre taking 1st.

“We want to send a strong message out there that sustainability and being eco-friendly should be part of everyone’s lives,” says Joegil Magtanggol Escobar, Hotel Manager of Club Paradise Palawan in his video message when asked about Club Paradise Palawan’s entry. He added, “We are just visitors in Dimakya Island where the private island resort of Club Paradise Palawan is located. The wildlife that our guests see roaming freely at the resort are the original inhabitants of the islands and it is just right that we respect their home and do something so that the island will be sustained for the future generations.”

About Green Destinations

Green Destinations, a non-profit foundation for sustainable tourism that has developed an assessment and reporting system to evaluate current tourism policy, management, and sustainability performance on relevant sustainability themes. “Green Destinations intends to put in the spotlight local and regional destinations around the world that are taking incremental steps and making promising progress towards a more sustainable tourism industry. More than ever, this year the goal is to share these destinations’ innovative and effective sustainability tourism stories and good management practices as inspiring examples to other destinations, tour operators, and travelers. The unprecedented COVID-19 global health pandemic has disrupted the tourism industry worldwide. Now is the time to get together, learn from each other and celebrate these resilient destinations. Green Destinations and the Top 100 Competition aimed to acknowledge destinations that are working toward making the tourism industry more sustainable and responsible while creating a more attractive experience for visitors by sharing and putting their Good Practice Story in the spotlight.
