Christian Bables, who wowed us with his stunning performance as Barbs in Die Beautiful, was recognized internationally as Best Actor at the 5th Hanoi International Film Festival (HANIFF). The festival was held at the Cultural Friendship Palace in Hanoi, Vietnam from October 27 to 31, 2018.
Bables was awarded for his role in Chito S. Rono’s Signal Rock, which is also the Philippines’ official entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 91st Academy Awards.
Signal Rock tells the story of Intoy, a young man who has to go to a rock formation in his hometown of Biri, Samar, to establish contact with his sister Vicky, who is in an abusive marriage in Finland. As Vicky’s marriage worsens, Intoy must find a way to save her, even if he lives in a province without any phone signal.

Bables stars with Daria Ramirez, Nanding Josef, Mon Confiado, Elora Espano, Arnold Reyes, Dido Dela Paz, Mengie Cobarubias, Joel Saracho, Mara Lopez, Ruby Ruiz, Sue Prado, Jomari Angeles, Kokoy De Santos, and Francis Magundayao.
The film was released on August 15, 2018 as an official entry to the Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino, where it won Critic’s Choice and the Special Jury Award.
