Beijing’s Embassy in Manila reported this Monday that the Chinese government will be sending a team of medical experts to assist the Philippines amid the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.
“The main task of the medical expert team is to help the Philippines fight against COVID-19, by providing technical advice on epidemic prevention and control as well as sharing medical treatment experience,” Chinese Ambassador Huang Xilian said.

Philippine Ambassador to China Chito Sta. Romana confirmed on Monday that talks for the arrival of the Chinese medical team are currently underway.
“Mayroong team na inihahanda na pupunta diyan para tumulong sa atin. I think that will be done soon kasi pinag-uusapan na yung details kailan makakapunta, sino, sa lalong madaling panahon,” he said in a televised briefing.
[There is a team being prepared to go there to help us. I think that will be done soon because the specifics are already being discussed.]
The Department of Health said that they are already preparing accommodations and translators for the 12 Chinese doctors. The medical team will be sharing their experience with containing the virus in Wuhan, China’s COVID-19 epicenter.

“Gusto natin maishare nila sa atin ang kanilang expertise because nakita po natin na ang bansa nila ay nagkaroon po ng pagtigil ng matataas na kaso, pagtigil na mataas na pagkamatay. So gusto lang ho nating matuto galing sa kanilang bansa,” Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said.
[We want them to share their expertise with us because we saw that China had a slowdown in the increase of cases as well as COVID-19 deaths. So we would like to learn from them.]

The arrangement comes as several hospitals in Metro Manila declare themselves unable to keep up with the continuously rising number of COVID-19 cases in the capital.
