Detective Pikachu was an instant blockbuster success when it came out despite being released just weeks after Marvel’s Avengers: Endgame.
Because it was a fluffy detective movie headed by Ryan Reynolds as the titular furry detective, a ton of parents brought their kids to the cinemas to watch it. However, young viewers at a particular screening in Montreal, Canada left the movie theater in tears after the cinema got their films mixed up.
Ryan George from Screen Rant live-tweeted everything that happened. Usually, the trailers that play before movies correspond to the type of movie that’s about to be shown. Imagine the confusion in the cinema when Annabelle Comes Home, The Joker, and Chucky trailers started flashing on the screen back to back.

The parents forgave it, thinking it was just a weird glitch or something, but lo and behold – the movie that began playing that day wasn’t Detective Pikachu. It was The Curse of La Llorona.

The horror film is about a malevolent spirit who haunts and kills – you guessed it – children. The film was eventually turned off and the viewers were led to a different theater where the movie they paid for was actually screening.
Hopefully, the fluffy yellow detective erased the traumatic experience from the children’s (and the adults’) minds.
