You don’t build a 30-year legacy by being trendy. You create it by being consistent. For families like mine, Chikaan is a place we always return to. It’s where we go when we want something familiar, comforting, and just a little bit indulgent. We’ve sat around their tables for casual lunches, post-church Sundays, and low-effort birthdays. We know what we’re ordering before the menu hits the table: pinakbet, munggo, camaron rebosado, sinigang, chorizo, it’s a done deal.
Now, with its newest branch in SM Davao’s expansion wing, Chikaan brings that same Cebuano-rooted hospitality to a bigger, brighter space, without losing the soul that made it a staple.
A Fresh Space for Familiar Flavors

Chikaan’s newest location sits at the heart of SM Davao’s expansion wing, flanked by wide walkways, natural light, and high ceilings. Compared to their cozier, more traditional setups, this branch feels noticeably more modern, but still grounded.
The CHIKAAN sign on the wall glows brighter here. The layout is more spacious. And the airiness of the new wing lets the dining experience breathe. Despite the upgrade, nothing about the brand’s warmth is lost. It still feels like walking into your tita’s house for Sunday lunch, just with sleeker lighting.
A Legacy of Filipino Comfort Food
Chikaan started in Cebu over 30 years ago with a clear mission: to serve traditional Filipino dishes that feel like coming home. Their menu pulls inspiration from family-style recipes across the country—from Visayan-style munggo to Luzon’s comforting sinigang.
In a sea of restaurants chasing trends, Chikaan stuck to the formula that works: warm service, familiar flavors, and food that tastes like it was made for you.
The Dishes That Keep Us Coming Back
My family doesn’t even open the menu anymore. Our usual table spread says everything:
Pinakbet
Tender vegetables sautéed in bagoong, with just enough sweetness to balance the salt. Not mushy, not greasy—just right.
Ginataang Monggo
Nutty, creamy, and comforting. The texture is smooth with just a hint of crunch. A spoonful of this tastes like something your Lola made on a rainy day.
Camaron Rebosado
Golden, crisp batter wrapped around plump shrimp. Served with a sweet-savory dipping sauce that never lasts more than a few minutes on the table.
Sinigang na Baboy
A proper balance of sour and savory. The broth carries depth, the meat is tender, and it hits that sweet spot between comfort and sharpness.
Chorizo Cebu
Sweet, garlicky, and grilled to a satisfying snap. It’s rich, juicy, and goes fast—especially with extra rice.
More Room, Same Soul
The branch may look newer, but it’s still unmistakably Chikaan. The servers still greet you like regulars. The food still comes out steadily. The vibe still leans more toward family lunch than formal dining.
And with the expansion wing’s breezy ceilings and open layout, there’s now more room to gather, pass plates around, and linger over a second round of rice.
Where Everyday Meals Still Feel Special
Chikaan’s arrival at SM Davao’s expansion wing is more than a brand update. It’s a quiet celebration of how Filipino food can evolve in space but still stay rooted in spirit.
Whether you’re here for a solo lunch, a barkada dinner, or a no-fail family gathering, the food tastes like something you’ve loved before—and that’s exactly the point.
