70 Rescue Cats at the CARA Facility Still Need New Homes—Here’s How You Can Help

It costs nothing to be kind, especially to animals. From your pets at home to stray cats and dogs that roam the city streets, it will always be fulfilling to lend a helping hand to fur babies in need. You can even volunteer at local animal shelters and support their charitable initiatives every year.

There are numerous ways in which you can get more involved in animal care in the Philippines. If you want to take more action for the country’s strays and advocate for their welfare this year, you can start by adopting a rescue cat from the Compassion and Responsibility for Animals (CARA) facility in Mandaluyong City. As of March 24, 2026, they still attend to 70 stray cats who’ve yet to find a new home.

“Out of 70 cats, 0 were chosen this month. It’s easy to say ‘maybe next time’ or believe someone else will take them home. But for them, each day passes with nothing changing. They’re still waiting,” CARA wrote on Facebook. Though they haven’t found new owners for any of their rescue cats yet, they’re staying hopeful and “keeping their doors open” for potential fur parents who want to meet and eventually adopt them.

If you want to bring any of CARA’s stray cats home, or if you know some friends or loved ones who already can, here’s how you can support the facility’s heartfelt cause:

A Little Compassion Goes a Long Way

Whether you’re used to adopting strays or about to take care of one for the first time, there’s no harm in keeping your heart and mind open to choosing them as pets.

If CARA’s adoption posts have made it to your timelines these past few days, you can visit the facility’s website for more details on their cats and other rescue animals.

CARA’s Pets for Adoption page offers a wide variety of cats and dogs in need of new homes and families. You can choose one that best fits your personality and living conditions, or one you can consider a lifelong companion. As part of the facility’s mission, all pets in their care have also been dewormed, neutered, spayed, and rabies-vaccinated already.

Once you’ve chosen a fur baby to adopt, you can head to CARA’s Adopt a Pet page and fill out the necessary paperwork. This includes:

  • An online adoption form to be screened for approval, which contains your personal information and other everyday commitments,
  • Stories about adopting a pet, things to consider before doing so (especially with your current living circumstances), and the health benefits of being a fur parent, among others,
  • A portal to pay for your adoption fee, and
  • Additional guidelines and policies about CARA’s services, advocacies, and adoption procedures.

This process also includes preparing photos of your home and bringing a pet carrier to the facility once your adoption paperwork has been approved. You can select your future pet from CARA’s Pets for Adoption page, Facebook page, or via walk-in at the center in Mandaluyong. They require at least one visit for cats and two for dogs.

More Helpful Projects by CARA

If you can’t adopt a pet at the moment, but still want to help CARA fulfill its long-term goals, you can participate in the facility’s various other projects. These include:

  • Sponsoring a pet, which helps fund its food, vaccinations, and medical care,
  • Fostering a pet for three months to one year while CARA looks for permanent families,
  • Donating to CARA’s funds for their rescue animals,
  • Volunteering at CARA’s special programs and activities to promote the center’s animal welfare advocacies,
  • Inviting the CARA team to educational events and youth summits,
  • Buying CARA’s official merchandise to proudly show your love for animals and
  • Sharing the facility’s adoption and fostering posts on social media.

Not everyone can adopt a pet and take on its responsibilities. Still, we can all do our part in helping stray animals in the country find a loving home.
