BTS Officially Breaks Guinness World Record for Best-Selling Album in Korea

By now, it’s no surprise how much BTS has achieved in the last few years since their breakthrough to the American entertainment industry following their nomination and eventual win at the Billboard Music Awards in 2017.

Still, every award and recognition the seven-member Kpop group receives is cause for celebration, especially when it involves breaking a Guinness World Record yet again!

As announced by the Guinness World Records on their website, BTS has broken the record for Best-selling Album in South Korea with their latest release, Map of the Soul: Persona. They claimed the top spot for selling a total number of 3,399,302 copies in their home country alone as of May 2019, successfully beating Kim Gun-mo’s 1995 album Mis-Encounter which sold over 3 million copies. BTS is the first to ever overthrow Kim Gun-mo’s 24-year sales record.

Map of the Soul: Persona was released on April 12, 2019, together with the music video of its hit single, “Boy With Luv” featuring American singer-songwriter Halsey. “Boy with Luv” holds three Guinness World Records of its own as the most viewed video in YouTube within 24 hours.
