“We know that the past couple of days have been triggering and disappointing for all of you. Sincerely, we understand where all of those feelings are coming from,” the P-pop girl group said in a statement.
“The video shows a private moment of us with friends. We definitely did not intend to hurt anyone in the process. We offer no excuse for our actions, reactions, and choice of words. We take full accountability. Nagkamali kami (We made a mistake).”
On May 7, a video circulated showing Ethan and Shawn mimicking an inappropriate gesture in front of Jhoanna, who was seated on a sofa, while the voices of Colet and Stacey were audible off-camera.
The controversy stemmed from a part of the clip where Stacey is heard saying, “Yan yung ginagawa niya kay Ashley (That’s what he does to Ashley),” to which Colet responded, “Yes. 13 years old.” Stacey then added, “Sinasabunutan (hair pulling),” followed by Jhoanna repeating, “Ahhh, 13 years old.”
Netizens pointed out the exchange for seemingly making light of a potentially sensitive and serious topic involving a minor.
BINI apologized for the viral video and asked for a chance to learn from their mistakes.
“We deeply regret our mistake and sincerely apologize to our Blooms, friends, families, and the general public,” they noted.
“We humbly ask for a chance to reflect on and learn from our mistakes and continue to work on becoming better versions of ourselves. Maraming salamat po sa inyong malasakit, suporta, at pang-unawa (Thank you so much for your concern, support, and understanding).”
Ethan and Shawn also released statements addressing the controversy, taking full responsibility for their actions.
