Lasagna–Garfield’s favorite food, a leaning tower of pasta with beef, tomato sauce, and cheese sandwiched between layers of al dente noodles and topped with even more cheese. What’s not to love about this delectable dish?

When my brother was little, he was a huge fan of the Garfield movies and TV show. Like Garfield, he wanted to eat lasagna almost every day. And while I wasn’t as big of a fan of Garfield as he was, I did appreciate a good pasta meal. The sight of a casserole tray filled with alternating layers of al dente pasta sheets, meat swimming in tomato sauce, and cheese would have my brother referencing Garfield while we sat down and tucked into slices of lasagna. The taste of sweet tomato sauce and creamy cheese would make me feel happy and want to eat as much pasta as I could like Garfield, and I could see why he loved lasagna so much. It’s definitely a dish that can be described as comfort food.

Last Sunday, I got to try lasagna by Baked Mak. And let me tell you that their lasagna would make Garfield proud.

Established in 2018, Baked Mak is a home-based food delivery service that specializes in lasagna which they chose for their love of cheese. Their tag line underneath the company’s name says “Comfort Carbs!” and their lasagna is definitely a comfort food packed with flavor that will make you forget about the extra carbs.

Say goodbye to your low-carb diet!

About the lasagna: first of all, Baked Mak does not skimp on the cheese. The entire tray of lasagna is blanketed by a layer of gooey cheese and dotted with herbs and large slices of mushrooms. And the cheese isn’t a mere sprinkling baked into the pasta. No, I’m talking about a thick layer of melted cheese that has a creaminess that helps cut through the sweetness of the tomato sauce. The sauce reminds me of the Pinoy-style spaghetti sauce we Filipinos love and I feel like it really gives Baked Mak’s lasagna that distinctly Pinoy flavor.

The lasagna’s ground beef absorbs the sweetness of the tomato sauce but doesn’t become a soggy mush, retaining its chunky texture and providing a good contrast of textures with the creamy cheese and chewy noodles. The noodles themselves are cooked well too, nice and al dente. When cutting off a slice, the filling oozes out like meaty tomato lava that just begs to be devoured.

I had two plates of this. No regrets!

Baked Mak’s a home-based service in Pateros. It’s best to order two days in advance since they do deliveries via Lalamove. Their lasagna is best eaten immediately, but it can be kept inside the fridge or freezer for a few days and can be reheated in case you don’t finish it in one day. Their small tray (2-3 pax) is priced at P500, medium (4-6 pax) at P900, and large (9-12 pax) at P1600.

If you’re in need of tasty lasagna that’ll fill you up for the day or just craving something cheesy, meaty, and comforting, Baked MAK is here to help with your cravings.
