Tired of the usual KBBQ or inasal joints?
Tucked inside The Compound in Matina, Bairrada Churrasqueira is quietly serving some of the most honest, fire-cooked meals in Davao. No loud interiors, no fusion gimmicks—just Portuguese-style barbecue grilled over real wood charcoal, with sides that don’t feel like an afterthought.
Here’s what we had, what stood out, and what to know before you go.
What to Expect at Bairrada
It’s the first Portuguese-style churrasqueira in Mindanao—a small, casual spot built around wood-fire grilling, straightforward comfort food, and ingredients they don’t cut corners on. Since opening just over a year ago, Bairrada has built a quiet cult following thanks to its housemade piri-piri sauce and smoky, generously seasoned dishes.
The Davao branch is a local concept by the team behind Pilgrim and Grateful Bread, led by Chef Jeramie Go, who decided to bring their take on their favorite Piri-piri chicken they loved when they were living in Toronto. While the setup is much more relaxed here, the commitment to simple, solid cooking is consistent.
Everything We Ate

The Frango Piri-Piri (Grilled Chicken) is the signature order for a reason. You get that unmistakable smokiness from the charcoal, layered with just enough heat from the housemade piri-piri. We had the half-chicken plate, which came with rice, potatoes, and tomato salad. The verdict? Juicy, properly charred, and deeply seasoned.
The Smashed Potatoes were perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. They weren’t too greasy nor too dry. They perfectly complemented the chicken. They were so good that we ordered a second serving.
The Tomato Salad was fresh and tangy, not overly dressed. Made the plate feel complete. Bright enough to cut through all the grilled flavor. We’d order this on its own.
We also ordered the Feijoada and Sardinha Asada, which were both tasty and filling. If you’re looking for something a little different, Bairrada might just be for you.
Where It Is and How to Order
Bairrada Churrasqueira is located at The Compound, Tulip Drive, Juna Subdivision, Matina, Davao City. They’re open from 10 AM to 10 PM daily.
Bairrada doesn’t try to oversell itself, and it doesn’t need to. The food holds up. They’ve even been recognized as Tatler’s Best of 2025 despite being open for less than a year. If you’re after grilled food that feels both familiar and new, without all the extras, this place is worth a stop.
No rabbit. No pastel de nata. Just good food and clean plates. We’ll be back.
