This Art Exhibit Showcases the One-of-a-Kind Charm of Aspins

The Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) proudly presents a heartwarming art exhibit featuring the ASPINS (Asong Pinoy) of the PAWS Shelter, created by renowned Japanese pet portrait artist Hiro.

All proceeds from the sale of the artworks will directly benefit PAWS’ rescue, rehabilitation, and rehoming efforts.

Known for his pop-style pet portraits, Hiro captures the unique personality and charm of animals through vibrant acrylic paintings. His journey as an artist began during the pandemic when he painted his beloved Miniature Schnauzer, TOP. What started as a personal project grew into his first solo exhibition in Tokyo, followed by successful sold-out shows in the Philippines — all anchored in his strong advocacy for animal welfare.

Guided by the message, “Differences are individuality, and individuality is beauty. Live with confidence,” Hiro’s bright, joyful, and heartwarming style inspires kindness, celebrates diversity, and brings happiness to both people and animals.

In this special collaboration with PAWS, Hiro honors the ASPINS — loyal, loving, and often overlooked — to show the world that they are as worthy of admiration and love as any breed. Each painting tells a story of resilience and hope, inviting viewers to see the beauty in every shelter dog.

This exhibit also marks another important milestone — it coincides with National Aspin Day, held annually every August 18, an initiative started by PAWS in 2021 to uplift and recognize the value of the Filipino native dog. By launching the exhibit on this day, PAWS deepens the celebration of ASPINS while raising awareness and empathy for their welfare.

“Through my art, I want people to see ASPINS not just as strays, but as beautiful, unique individuals deserving of respect and a safe, loving home,” Hiro shared.

“We are deeply grateful for this collaboration and for Hiro’s generosity in sharing his incredible talent for a cause close to our hearts,” said Atty. Anna Cabrera, Executive Director of PAWS. “This partnership helps us continue our mission to promote animal welfare and give more animals a chance at a better life.”

PAWS also extends its heartfelt thanks to SM Megamall for being the venue partner of this exhibit, making this celebration of ASPINS possible.
