Having officially clinched the Olympic gold, 24-year-old Armand Duplantis continued his attempts, hoping to elevate the bar to a new world record of 6.10 meters, surpassing the previous Olympic best of 6.03 meters achieved by Thiago Braz in Rio de Janeiro… AND HE DID. As expected, Swede pole vaulter Armand Duplantis cleared it effortlessly.
Undeterred, he upped the ante and pushed the bar higher to a challenging 6.25 meters. Although it took three attempts, Armand Duplantis successfully stuck the landing at this height!
Armand Duplantis shared his victory with the entire Paris Olympics crowd.
Meanwhile, Sam Kendricks from the U.S. won silver by jumping 5.95 meters.
Greece’s Emmanouil Karalis and the Philippines’ EJ Obiena both successfully cleared a height of 5.90 meters. However, Karalis won the bronze medal over Obiena due to a countback rule. This means they looked at their previous attempts to determine the winner. Karalis chose to skip the 5.95-meter height, while Obiena used up all three of his tries at that height.
