Apple Just Dropped the New M5 MacBooks, and They’re Faster Than Ever!

Apple has officially raised the bar for personal computing with the announcement of the new MacBook Air and MacBook Pro lineups, now powered by the next-generation M5 chip family. This latest iteration marks a significant shift toward on-device artificial intelligence, offering substantial performance gains for the world’s most popular laptops. By integrating a faster CPU and a next-generation GPU with a dedicated Neural Accelerator in each core, Apple aims to provide a seamless experience for everything from everyday productivity to complex creative workflows.

The new MacBook Air with M5 remains the gold standard for portability and efficiency, but with a major internal overhaul. For the first time, the 13-inch and 15-inch models now come standard with 512GB of storage—double that of the previous generation—utilizing faster SSD technology to accelerate file access. Beyond the raw speed of the M5 chip, which is up to 9.5x faster for AI tasks than the M1 model, the new Air introduces the N1 wireless chip. This enables Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 connectivity, ensuring that mobile professionals and students stay connected with unprecedented reliability.

For power users, the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models now feature the all-new M5 Pro and M5 Max chips. These processors utilize a new “Fusion Architecture” designed to handle the most demanding professional workloads, such as 3D rendering and large language model (LLM) processing.

The M5 Max, in particular, delivers up to 4x the AI performance of the M4 generation, allowing researchers and developers to train custom models locally on a laptop. These pro machines also boast an industry-leading battery life of up to 24 hours, alongside expanded connectivity options including Thunderbolt 5 and a 12MP Center Stage camera.

Both lineups are optimized for the newly introduced macOS Tahoe, which features a refined “Liquid Glass” aesthetic and deep integration with Apple Intelligence. Users can take advantage of new system-wide capabilities, such as live translation in Messages and automated categorization in Reminders, all while maintaining Apple’s strict standards for data privacy. Furthermore, in line with the company’s 2030 carbon-neutral goal, these devices are crafted using 55% recycled content, including a 100% recycled aluminum enclosure.

The MacBook Air with M5 starts at ₱72,990, while the 14-inch MacBook Pro with M5 Pro starts at ₱149,990. Local availability through the Apple Philippines online store and authorized resellers is expected to follow shortly.
