Ang Galing is Back! Volunteers Help Underprivileged Kids Build Self-Confidence Through Learning
When in Manila, can you be Ang Galing and help make the lives of children from marginalized communities better and brighter?
Ang Galing is the weekly literacy program of ATD Fourth World Philippines, usually held on Saturdays. It focuses on children six years and above who have serious difficulties in basic reading and writing (Tagalog). Some children go to school (regularly and irregularly), others are not at all enrolled. BUT all are very eager to learn!
Ang Galing wants to reinforce the self-confidence of these children. Through one-on-one sessions the program encourages every improvement no matter how small. Therefore, Ang Galing! :D
Volunteers are needed! You don’t have to be a teacher, but teacher qualities are welcome. According to ATD, an ‘Ang Galing! “titser” is patient, encouraging, positive and creative.
The weekly tutoring program are in two marginalized communities in Manila, at Ilalim ng Tulay in Paco and North Cemetery in Sta. Cruz.
Volunteers usually meet up at the ATD’s office in Pandacan, Manila. To volunteer and to find out schedule, text kuya Guy Malfait 0947 423 7238 or ate Yeng Calaguas (0921) 747 1013. Or check the event page on Facebook – http://goo.gl/f4Oa05
