The State of the Nation Address (SONA) is looked forward to for two reasons: the president’s speech and the fashion choices of attendees. Now that the dress code is “business attire,” there’s only the speech. But according to Presidential Communications Office Secretary Martin Andanar, it will be very powerful.
He said, “”The address of the President, personally written by the President, will be a very powerful speech that will awaken the patriot in every Filipino.”
He added, “Ayoko pong mag-exaggerate pero first time I read the speech, it made me cry. Ganoon po kaganda, ganoon nakakabagbag damdamin ang speech ng Pangulo po natin.” (“I don’t want to exaggerate, but the first time I read the speech, it made me cry. That’s how beautiful and touching it is.”)
The mood of the SONA will reflect Duterte’s trademark transparency. Award-winning filmmaker Brillante Mendoza will direct the event, and said that it will have a “mood of reality,” or the feeling that the president is personally talking to everyone. There will be no video or slideshow presentations.
