Netflix is moving forward with a sequel to KPop Demon Hunters, the animated hit that became one of the platform’s most-watched original films. Directors Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans are returning for the follow-up, which will also mark the first project under their new multiyear writing and directing deal with the streaming giant.

The original film, produced in partnership with Sony Pictures Animation, gained a strong following after its release, with its music and characters resonating with audiences worldwide. Kang said the sequel will continue to explore the characters’ story.

“There’s so much more to this world we have built, and I’m excited to show you. This is only the beginning,” she shared. Appelhans added that the characters “are like family” to the team and that they look forward to “writing their next chapter.”

The announcement comes just ahead of the 98th Academy Awards, where KPop Demon Hunters won Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song for “Golden.”

As of writing, Netflix has not yet shared a release date for the sequel.
