TOHO Animation revealed that Haikyu!! will return not only to the big screen but also to television with the feature film Haikyu!! VS The Little Giant and the special anime Haikyu!! The Place Where Monsters Go, both scheduled to premiere in 2027.

Haikyu!! was last shown on television in 2020 during the anime’s fourth season, when Shoyo Hinata, Tobio Kageyama, and the rest of the Karasuno High volleyball team faced Inarizaki High—led by the formidable twin Atsumu and Osamu Miya—during the second round of the spring high national tournament.

Meanwhile, the anime was last seen in theaters with the 2024 film Haikyu!! The Dumpster Battle, which continued Karasuno’s journey through the tournament as they faced their archrivals, Nekoma High School.

The Dumpster Battle was the fulfillment of a long-standing promise made by the coaches and players in Season 1, Episode 13, “Vow for a Rematch”—that they would one day face each other in an official, high-stakes national tournament matchup.

Battle of the Little Giants

Slated for 2027, Haikyu!! VS The Little Giant serves as a direct sequel to the 2024 movie and will feature one of the most anticipated matches in the entire series—the battle between the two “little giants.”

Following their emotional victory over Nekoma in the third round of the spring high national tournament, Karasuno advanced to the quarterfinals, where their next challenge is one of the most anticipated matchups in the entire series: a clash with title contenders Kamomedai High.

Beyond their pursuit of the championship, Haikyu!! VS The Little Giant—as highlighted in its newly released concept visual—will revolve around the personal showdown between Hinata and Kamomedai’s Korai Hoshiumi as they compete to prove who truly deserves the title of the next “little giant.”

Battle of the Aces

The special anime, which is also set to air on television in 2027, will also center on the spring high national tournament quarterfinals, but with a different pairing.

While the movie focuses on Karasuno, Haikyu!! The Place Where Monsters Go will feature the quarterfinal game between Fukurodani Academy and Mujinazaka High.

Like the feature film, the television special heavily focuses on one central character: Kotaro Bokuto, Fukurodani’s main gunner.

Bokuto faces another player of elite status—Wakatsu Kiryu, who is recognized as one of the top three aces in Japanese high school volleyball.

Dubbed the “battle of the aces,” this match, just like “the battle of the little giants,” will be crucial for Bokuto as he tries to solidify his elite standing on the national stage.
