“Ang Tanging Ina N’yong Lahat,” the sequel to the hit 2003 comedy film “Ang Tanging Ina,” joined the ranks of IndieWire’s “The 100 Best Movie Sequels Ever Made” list.

Published on August 10, the list spotlighted quality film sequels, spanning from popular franchise classics, non-linear Hong Kong art films, and more.
Landing at the 75th spot, “Ang Tanging Ina N’yong Lahat” is praised for the late Wenn Deramas’ feminist take on parenthood and its playful critique of politics without being too heavy-handed.
“The film’s pleasures also rest on its political inflection, setting up in the process a parody of the despotic Gloria Macapagal Arroyo regime under which the blockbuster film was made—and therefore a critique of the self-mythologizing power of assuming the image of a charismatic maternal figure to provoke a kind of electoral herd mentality in a country where the family unit is deemed sacred,” IndieWire wrote.
The film was also described as a “crowd-pleasing fare” as it seamlessly blended melodrama, comedy, and local pop culture that resonated with many audiences.
The list included the bestselling novel “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban,” beloved animated superhero film “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,” and popular romantic drama “Before Midnight,” among others.
Meanwhile, Gregory Jacobs’ “Magic Mike XXL” bagged the first spot on the highly decorated list.
Released five years after “Ang Tanging Ina,” “Ang Tanging Ina N’yong Lahat” follows Ina Montecilio (played by Ai-Ai delas Alas) as she embarks on a transformative journey after rediscovering her self-worth as a solo parent and eventually becoming President of the Philippines.
The beloved sequel was also the official entry to the 2008 Metro Manila Film Festival, and became the highest-grossing film in the country at that time.
