That’s right– Cobra Kai‘s success sparked a new Karate Kid movie featuring Ralph Macchio and Jackie Chan! Together! Plus, this announcement came with a global casting call to find a teenage star for the film.
The video drop was super cool! It showed Macchio and Chan in the same frame – Macchio, the OG Karate Kid from the ’80s and the Cobra Kai sensation, and Chan, who nailed the 2010 reboot with Jaden Smith – a glimpse of the must-see action-packed reunion like never before!
The casting notice, on the other hand, suggested that the new Karate Kid would be named Li Fong–a “Chinese or mixed-race Chinese [aged] between 15-17 years old.” The website added, “He’s smart, scrappy, and a skilled martial artist!” This role is open to anyone around the world who fits the description. The actor must also be available from March to June 2024 and speak fluent English, while conversational Mandarin is a strong plus, as well as any sort of martial arts, movement, gymnastics, and/or dancing skills. Moreover, acting skills are said to be preferred…but not required!
Interested applicants may email their entries to KarateKidCasting@sony.com along with their names, where they are based, a recent photo, and a short bio.
The latest addition to the martial arts film franchise will be reportedly directed by Jonathan Entwistle (creator of the hit TV series The End of the F***ing World) and is set to hit cinemas by December next year.
