Several Barangays Might Be Placed Under Strict Community Quarantine

The Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ) was recently announced to follow the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) in the NCR on May 16, 2020. However, some local government officials have appealed for a different kind of quarantine: a Strict Community Quarantine (SCQ).

One of them is Mayor Edwin Olivarez of Paranaque City, who is planning on placing five or more barangays under the SCQ for three days next week. This comes after Paranaque has experienced a surge of COVID-19 cases.

As of May 10, the highest amount of COVID-19 cases in Paranaque are as follows: San Antonio (78), BF Homes (66), San Dionisio (64), Don Bosco (59), and Moonwalk (51). In total, there have been 578 confirmed cases, 148 recoveries, and 40 deaths. There are also 701 suspected cases and 1,214 probable cases in the city.

Olivarez says that he will be issuing an executive order for the SCQ, which will only allow frontliners, essential workers, and those with emergencies to leave their homes. Markets, banks, gasoline stations, and other stores will also be closed down during this time. However, Olivarez assures that residents will be getting food packs and cash aid before the SCQ is put into place.

During the SCQ, Olivarez plans to conduct rapid testing on 3,000 people from each of the five barangays. This will be done after the positive cases and suspected cases have been placed in isolation facilities.
