This Campus Cat Has His Own School ID and Published Book

A tomcat by the name of Doerak has become such a permanent fixture in the campus of the University of Groningen in the Netherlands that they have given him the status of a student. Already affectionately nicknamed ‘Professor Doerak’ by the students, this fluffy cat now has a student ID to legitimize his standing in the university.

Doerak began his stay in the university by regularly strolling among the students and buildings on campus. His presence became quite common when his brother, Mickey, passed away and Doerak chose to find solace in the environment of Groningen. He even regularly drops by classes and is quite comfortable inside a classroom.

So it’s no surprise that Doerak was made an official RUG student. He had his own special ceremony at the Harmonie building, the building which he frequents the most. As part of the conferment, Doerak was given an official school ID. The University Library also prepared a special cat book (complete with a tail!) for him to pick up using his new ID.

Speaking of books, it’s also worth noting that Doerak even has a published work of his own. But ghostwritten by his humans, of course. The e-book entitled Our Campus, Their World collects the stories of university cats around the world. Doerak’s dad explained that aside from their interest in researching similar situations, “since Doerak is a professor, he has to have some publications to his name in order to prove himself to his feline friends.”
