“You’re trying too hard!”
“Ay, mas bagay sa’yo yung walang makeup.”
“Boys like the natural look more.”
“You don’t need all that makeup to be pretty!”
Makeup shaming is a thing. You’ve probably experienced it at least once in your life if you’re a makeup fanatic like me. Not a lot of people talk about it, and that’s probably because they don’t understand what’s so wrong with it in the first place. Whenever someone tells you that you look better without makeup or that you don’t need it to look gorgeous, it may seem like you should feel flattered. I mean, the thought is there, I guess? But really, comments like those are just backhanded compliments are best.
Here’s why.

4. Makeup promotes self-love
We don’t use makeup to cover up our features, we use it to enhance them. We love pampering ourselves with makeup because it’s a form of self-care. And contrary to popular belief, we don’t wear makeup to impress anyone. Sometimes, makeup just makes us feel like the best version of ourselves. Applying makeup is simply an enjoyable activity for us, and we won’t let anyone spoil our fun.

3. We worked hard on that
Sure, makeup is fun, but it can also get quite frustrating. Do you know how hard it is to apply eyeliner evenly to both your eyes? Not to mention the fact that makeup is oftentimes expensive. We spend a lot of our money, time, and effort on makeup because we find pleasure in it, so don’t tell us that we’re better off without it.

2. It’s not something deceptive
So apparently, some people think that it’s deceiving to wear makeup on dates because your partner doesn’t see your “real” face. But hey, it’s not our fault that our application is so flawless that you don’t even realize we’re wearing something. Besides, when we don’t wear makeup, you’re probably going to start asking why I look sick. So really, that’s your problem, not ours.

1. We like it
We don’t care if you like the “natural look” more. We like how we look, and that’s all that matters. It makes us feel comfortable and we’re not going to adjust for you just because you think otherwise.
Overall, people shouldn’t police your style at all even if society has different standards. You can dress and look however you want (as long as you’re not hurting anyone, of course).
So go ahead and apply as much makeup as you want. You’re allowed to do things that make you happy.
