After much speculation and online campaigning by fans, one actress spoke up to share how she actually feels about being put forward for the role of Darna. Kathryn Bernardo revealed to the press before a beauty endorsement on April 6 that despite her being a fan favorite, snagging the role of Darna may not be a priority for her.
When Liza Soberano had to, unfortunately, back out of the role of Darna due to a finger injury netizens took to social media speculating on who could be the next Darna. Kathryn Bernardo was one of many choices, and she had this to say on the topic:
Personally, Darna is such an iconic role. Alam mo, dream lahat ng babae siguro na maging si Darna, pero, siguro, it’s not for me kasi hindi porke’t gusto mo yung role, puwede siya sa iyo, e. [You know, it’s probably every girl’s dream to be Darna but for me, just because you want the role doesn’t mean it is a fit for you.]
Ewan ko, maybe…hindi ko alam. I don’t think it’s for me kasi sobrang bigat ng Darna. And kapag sinabi mong Darna, parang nai-imagine ko talaga ngayon si Ate Angel. [I don’t know. I don’t think it’s for me because the role of Darna is really heavy. And when you say ‘Darna’, I still imagine Ate Angel.]

Kathryn also shared that she felt a more mature actress would better fill the role Darna:
For me, may binabagayan siya, and yung nai-imagine, napipiktyuran ko as Darna is someone who’s a bit older than me. Someone na parang mas woman. Woman na talaga. [For me, I think it would better fit and I can better imagine a Darna who is a bit older than me. Someone that is more of a woman already.]

As to who her choice for Darna would be, she had no preference on the matter. She did, however, pledge her support for whoever would be cast next:
And hindi ko alam kung sino, so whoever man mapili for the role, kailangan talaga sobrang-sobra paghandaan. Bigyan ng maraming training kasi hindi biro ang Darna… [I don’t know who would be picked, but whoever it is would need to seriously prepare for the role. She would need a lot of training because playing Darna is no joke…]
Kung sino man ang next [whoever is next], she’ll have my full support as a fan of Darna.
Siya nagre-represent ng woman empowerment sa atin and yeah, we’ll support her kung sino man siya. [She will be representing women empowerment for all of us and yeah, we’ll support her whoever it is.]
