If you need more proof that Filipinos are excelling in film, just take a look at Birdshot, which won another award at a prestigious film festival abroad. Its lead star, Mary Joy Apostol, was conferred Best Actress at the first ASEAN Film Awards in Vietnam.

According to Liza Diño, chairperson of the Film Development Council of the Philippines, “they once again soared high!”

In the past, the film was awarded Best Picture in the Asian Future category at the 2016 Tokyo International Film Festival, and was selected for the Ingmar Bergman International Debut Award at the Goteborg Film Festival. Birdshot is also the country’s official entry to the Best Foreign Language Film category of the 2018 Academy Awards.

The film is directed by Mikhail Red and follows a young girl who accidentally kills an endangered bird. When the authorities attempt to track down the killer, they uncover a deep secret.

The film stars Apostol, John Arcilla, and Ku Aquino.

Congratulations to Apostol and the Birdshot team!
