Comic book movies aren’t new to the world. However, they have started to take the big screen by storm, slowly turning into movies that everyone waits for with anticipation and excitement. I must admit: while I am not always fond of the superhero movies that come out on the big screen, I cannot wait to see these 8 comic book characters come to life (and some of them come to life again) in the near future:
8 Comic Book Characters We Cannot Wait to See on the Big Screen
In the very first Avengers comics, Ant-Man was part of the original Avengers and he was my ultimate favorite (as I’ve mentioned in this article). He was the witty one who never failed to put a smile on my face. As such, I was thrilled to learn that Paul Rudd would be portraying him in the movies.
I’ve always appreciated Paul Rudd’s comic prowess and definitely feel like he will do the role justice. Plus, the trailer kicks butt with Wasp making an appearance, as well! Fortunately, the movie will be out in just a couple of months, so we won’t have to wait much longer.
7. Ben Affleck as Batman
I’ve seen a lot of Batmans in my time. Haha. Don’t get me wrong. I’m not that old. However, I did grow up watching the old Batman movies, so I’ve seen every single movie Batman portrayal that has existed since Batman movies started to exist. My ultimate movie Batman crush so far has been Val Kilmer because his chin was perfect for the mask. So, since Ben Affleck has such a great chin, I cannot wait to see what he will look like in the suit.
Add to it the fact that Ben is great in practically all of his movies (say what you will about Daredevil; I enjoyed that movie) and you’ve got the ultimate superhero movie waiting to happen. Another great thing? The addition of this next superhero to the roster…
6. Wonder Woman
Is it just me or should Wonder Woman have had a movie ages ago? I don’t know about you, but I used to envision Megan Fox in the role back in the day – if only coz she looked so Wonder Womanly back then. Well, now, we’ve got Gal Gadot filling the sexy superhero’s shoes.
While I’m not entirely fond of the darkness and non-patriotic colors of her costume, I still can’t wait to see how she portrays this legendary goddess on-screen.
Okay, I promise I won’t add Lex Luthor to this list so as not to overpopulate it with Superman vs Batman movie goodness (though Jesse Eisenberg is sure to rock the role – bald head, witty repartee and all). Instead, I’m adding Aquaman… mostly coz we haven’t seen Aquaman in a movie yet, but also because he’s being played by Jason Momoa aka Khal Drogo.
The picture says it all, methinks, but let me say it anyway: Bad. Ass.
4. Black Panther
Black Panther is set to make an appearance in Captain America: Civil War, but the fact that he has his own movie coming up is a big deal because he is the first black superhero to play the lead role in a Marvel movie.
I wonder if we’ll ever see an Asian superhero take the lead role in a Marvel movie? One can dream, right?
3. Jared Leto at The Joker
A lot of people were skeptical when Heath Ledger was cast as The Joker in The Dark Knight, but lo and behold: superhero movie fanatics now worship the guy. I have a heard a lot of skepticism about Jared Leto being cast as The Joker in Suicide Squad, but I think he’s gonna be awesome and a bit out-of-this-world… or a lot out-of-this-world.
The rest of the cast of Suicide Squad rocks, too. It includes Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Will Smith as Deadshot and Cara Delevingne as The Enchantress. Talk about star-studded!
I’ve been waiting for a proper Gambit movie since the very first X-Men movie came out. Having grown up with the X-Men and with Gambit as my favorite X-Man, this isn’t really surprising. Well, he’s finally going to have his chance to (properly) shine next year with his very own feature film starring none other than Channing Tatum in the lead role!
Say what you will about Channing, but you gotta admit he looks the part. Just imagine him with his clothes on. Haha. Seriously, though. Let’s give the guy a chance.
1. Dr. Strange
Oh, look! Dr. Who is going to be playing another doctor soon: Dr. Strange. And come on… Who doesn’t like Benedict Cumberbatch enough to get excited about this?
Rumours are Cumberbatch will be joined by his Sherlock costar Martin Freeman, as well – yet another actor to get excited about if the rumours are true! 😀
Which of these comic book characters are you most excited to see on the big screen? Who would you add to the list? Geek out with us below! 🙂
