6 Reasons Why The Lion King Remake is a Must-Watch

As someone who wasn’t a huge fan of Disney’s past live-action remakes of their classic animated films (I’m looking at you, Beauty and the Beast!),  I was initially pretty skeptical of The Lion King remake. A “live-action” version of a movie about talking animals with absolutely no humans? I was so sure they would just end up butchering one of my favorite movies like they did with Beauty and the Beast (sorry, I’m still not over it).  Thankfully, The Lion King did not disappoint and only reaffirmed my love for the original.

6 Reasons Why The Lion King Remake is a Must-Watch

6. It’s laugh-out-loud funny.

There were so many moments when the entire theater burst into laughter, which I think is one of the best parts about going to the cinema. Timon and Pumbaa stole the show with their hilarious lines, and were definitely the crowd favorites!

5. The CGI is great.

Since real wild animals were not actually used in the film (lol); technically speaking, it’s not really a live-action remake. Still,  you should go watch it for the gorgeous CGI effects alone. The animals and the scenery look ridiculously realistic! Don’t you just love modern technology?

4. It’s a more mature version of the original.

While it’s still family-friendly, the darker tone of this version will be appreciated by people who aren’t necessarily fond of kids’ movies. It’s more serious, more dramatic, and the stakes seem much higher.

3. Scar’s villain song is amazing!

Who doesn’t love a good villain? Scar and the hyenas are a lot more menacing this time around. Sure, his solo number is not as grand as the original version, but it is still creepy and gave me literal chills.

2. Beyoncé voices Nala.

This is self-explanatory. Why wouldn’t you want to hear her majestic voice on the big screen and hear her (and Donald Glover’s) rendition of “Can You Feel the Love Tonight?”

1. You get to relive your childhood.

Let’s be real. Disney didn’t make this movie for the kids. This movie is for everyone who grew up watching and loving the original version from the ’90s. Of course, the original is a timeless classic and is untouchable, but I still loved seeing my favorite Disney film come to life, and I’m sure you will, too!

The Lion King is now showing in theatres nationwide.

I was lucky enough to watch it during the Grand Cinema Night presented by Resorts World Manila. RWM aims to bring back the glamour of the red carpet premiere with one-night special screenings of the latest films. The Grand Cinema Night is by invitation only, but interested fans can visit the official RWM website, download the mobile app, and follow the official RWM Facebook and Twitter pages to learn how to get special invitations to the event.
