It’s not every day that you get to watch one of your favorite artists perform live. So, when I was given the opportunity to see Halsey live in Manila, I knew I had to take it. I’m so glad I did because it was one of the best concerts I have ever been to!

5. When she performed “Closer”

It’s always a surreal experience when you get to watch an artist perform the song that made you aware of their existence. For me, that song was “Closer”. Unlike her other performances, “Closer” was very heartfelt and intimate because it was just the piano playing and Halsey was just sitting on the steps instead of dancing around the stage. After her performance, she joked about showing The Chainsmokers a video of her performance and telling them, “My crowd is louder than yours.”

4. When she explained why she had a water jug with her

You’ve probably noticed how performers usually have a plastic bottle of water within reach. As for Halsey, she had a huge bottle of water with her onstage, similar to the water coolers you used to bring in elementary or high school. She explained, “I’m trying to save the Earth, so I’ve been trying to use less plastic.” As a person who has been living with less plastic for over a decade now, I swear I fell in love with Halsey even more.

3. When she dedicated a song to the LGBT community

One of Halsey’s songs that I really fell in love with is “Strangers”, which she originally recorded with Fifth Harmony member Lauren Jauregui. I got really excited when the intro of the song started playing because, after a year of just singing the song in the shower, I was finally going to hear Halsey sing it live!

Just when I thought it couldn’t get any better, Halsey dedicated the song to all the members of the LGBT community. Halsey is a proud member of the community and, through songs like this, she has helped other people become more comfortable with who they really are.

2. When she said something we all needed to be reminded of

As a self-proclaimed strong, independent woman, I truly believe that nobody can own me except me. However, I still need to be reminded of this every once in a while and so does everybody else. Before performing “Hurricane”, Halsey took the time to tell the audience something everyone needs to take to heart: “You don’t belong to anyone else but yourself.” Repeat it until you believe it.

1. When she surprised the audience while performing Colors

“Colors” has always been one of my favorite songs from Halsey. I especially love the bridge because, well, who doesn’t? Imagine my surprise when Halsey went off the stage right after the bridge and disappeared into the audience. I didn’t really realize what was happening until Halsey was already halfway through the crowd and heading towards us!

Long story short: Halsey circled the crowd and walked right in front of me. Mind you, she was still singing the whole time! I’m so glad I decided to take a video of the performance, although the latter half of the video is just me screaming my head off.

HALSEY Hopeless Foundation Kingdom World Tour Live in Manila was held on August 10, 2018, at the KIA Theatre and was presented by PULP Live World.
