If you’re an avid fan of OPM and like to listen to new artists like Better Days and Ben&Ben, then you’ve probably heard of the country’s latest singer, songwriter, and producer Fernando Miguel Tan, more popularly known as Fern..
Fern. made his claim to fame when his debut single “Into You” hit No.1 on Spotify. Since then, he has released other singles: “Are You Mine” and “Wanna Dance with You”, both of which landed on digital charts in the Philippines and in other countries. Fern. has definitely sung his way to the hearts of many, but here are 5 things you probably didn’t know about him.

5 Things You Should Know about the New OPM Artist Fern
5. He’s only 17 years old.
Yes, you read that right. In fact, he just graduated from senior high. At a very young age, Fern. has managed to achieve his lifelong dream of being a musician. Given how talented he is, I can’t say I’m surprised. If he’s topping charts at the age of 17, can you imagine what he could achieve five or ten years from now?
4. He’s still a normal teenager.
During Fern.’s EP Launch, we asked him if he still considers himself a normal teenager. His response was, “Yeah. I don’t really feel the fame. I don’t feel the whole glamour of it– I don’t want to.” Inspired by American singer-songwriter Frank Ocean, Fern. wants everyone to know his music while living a low-key life. No doubt, he is one of the most down-to-earth artists in the industry.

3. He can play the sax.
Aside from singing during his performances, Fern. also plays the keyboard and the guitar. But did you know that he can also play the saxophone? As a matter of fact, he plans to incorporate the saxophone in his future live performances. Exciting!
2. He co-produced a song with Claudia Barretto.
You’ve probably heard of Claudia Barretto’s hit single “You.” If you think it sounds like something Fern. would produce, it’s because he did! Claudia was so impressed with Fern.’s songs that she invited him to do a collaboration with her. She also invited Fern. to be a part of Universal Records Philippines, which Fern. gladly accepted.
1. He believes that everyone should chase their dreams, no matter what their age is.
We live in a society that doesn’t quite encourage the younger generation to chase after their dreams. Here’s what Fern. has to say: “A lot of kids hold back from really going for it because of the reality that people impose on them, like, ‘Oh, you’re so young. Focus on your studies,’ and all that. But if you want it, do it. You’ll reap the benefits of your efforts.”
Whether you’ve always been a fan or have just become one recently, you’ll be glad to know that Fern. has more music available now. His self-titled debut EP was just released yesterday on iTunes, Apple Music, Spotify, Deezer, Spinnr, and Amazon. Check it out now!
