5 Reasons Why I’m Excited for the Van Gogh Alive Exhibit to Come to Manila

When I first heard that the Van Gogh exhibit was coming to Manila, I couldn’t contain my excitement. I have been a Van Gogh fan for a long time now, having grown up in a household that practically looks like an art museum, many thanks to my art-loving dad. 🙂

As much of a cliche as it might sound, Van Gogh’s most famous painting, The Starry Night, was an image that had brought me so much joy when I was younger – and I’ve made it a point to have as much of the image around me as possible. I’ve cross-stitched the painting to hang up on my bedroom wall. My laptop keyboard looks like the painting. And I get so excited when people ask about my slight obsession with it. There are more reasons why hearing about the exhibit coming to Manila has made me super excited, though.

5 Reasons Why I’m Excited for the Van Gogh Alive Exhibit to Come to Manila

5. It could get more of today’s youth interested in art.

One of the biggest reasons why I’m excited for the Van Gogh Alive exhibit is because I have a 9-year-old daughter, who (sad to say) isn’t that interested in art. I think growing up in a very digital world has changed how kids view museums. In a nutshell, they think they’re downright boring… though that could just be my kid’s perception, really. :p Either way, I’m hoping that this way of showcasing Van Gogh’s work might get her more excited about the world of art in a more this-generation-friendly way.

4. It will introduce casual Van Gogh fans to more of his work.

While I am sure a lot of people are already familiar with The Starry Night, not as many people may be familiar with the rest of Van Gogh’s work. Now, more people will get to know and appreciate the rest of what he has to offer. And hey, if you wanna take pictures while you’re there (and if it’s allowed, of course), feel free to do so! That way, more people will get interested in visiting the exhibit and, in turn, also get to know more about Van Gogh and his art. Art is for everyone, after all, and you are allowed to enjoy things as you please (as long as you aren’t hurting anyone).

3. We’ll get to see his art without having to leave the country.

Let’s face it: we’re not all rich enough to travel the world and visit all of the museums that we please. Having this exhibit in Manila means that we’ll get to see his work without having to spend a ton of money traveling to various museums in Moscow, Paris, Amsterdam, etc.

2. It gives us something new to look forward to.

If you’re sick of bringing your relatives, friends, or dates to the same places over and over again; this exhibit will give you a fresh experience to look forward to. If you’re a die-hard Van Gogh fan, imagine walking through the exhibit and sharing everything that you know with your companions after the ride. If you’re currently dating someone, imaging walking through an exhibit filled with gorgeous art while holding hands and discussing which one was your favorite over dinner afterwards. Ayieeeee!
