10 Indie Films Competing at Cinemalaya 2016

Cinemalaya official Facebook page posted the 10 indie films competing on August 5-14, 2016.

The Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival which literally translates to “Independent film”ย is a film competition and festival that aims to encourage the creation of new cinematic works by Filipino filmmakers.ย ย Each year, ten fresh talents are given a seed grant in order to create the film of their dreams

SYNOPSIS: Elena is chosen to be their villageโ€™s โ€œBinukotโ€, a maiden chosen to be the fairest amongst the women in her village, confined inside her house, never allowed to go outside. She is chosen to keep the oral tradition alive, memorizing the chants and performing it. She is to pass the title and responsibility to her granddaughter Letty. When sanctity of the โ€œtuosโ€ becomes threatened, putting Letty in danger, Elena realized that she cannot just stand aside. Elena finds herself coming face to face, literally, with the ghosts of a tradition, which shackled her into a life of solitary confinement.
