Parkour Philippines / PK Manila Outdoor Sports

If you haven’t seen the crazy videos of guys jumping their way up and around buildings, then you totally need to search for the word “Parkour” on YouTube!

Let me try to break it down for you… Parkour is like an outdoor sport, or better yet, it’s like an exercise class where you run around an obstacle course. The only difference is that the WORLD is your obstacle course. So that means you’re jumping over tables, around railings, through monkey bars, over bridges and pretty much everything else that happens to be in front of you. Better defined, Parkour is the act of finding the quickest way to get from point A to point B, which then makes you do stuff that only Spiderman might think of doing. With Parkour, the whole world becomes your playground.

So it really caught my attention when I found out that there are Parkour groups in the Philippines! To my delight, our friends at Parkour Philippines (https://www,pkph.net) and PK Manila (https://usrpkmla.multiply.com) invited me out to play!

We set our playtime to an early weekend morning in Luneta Park, one of the more well-known parks in Manila. Not only was it a great day for Parkour, but I knew that Harold was up and ready to do all the stunts… or that’s what I thought…

Vince: So Harold…. how about I run the camera today and I can film you…
Harold: …
Vince: I mean, you know, give you some airtime and all…
Harold: …
Vince: Why you giving me that look…?
Harold: …
Vince: What! You trying to say I’m a wuss?
Harold: …
Vince: Dude that’s not cool! You’re totally calling me a wuss in your head!
Harold: …
Vince: You know what! F*** YOU!!!! I’ll show you! I can totally do this!
Harold: …
Vince: Oh no you didn’t! I know you didn’t just bring THAT up too!
Harold: …
Vince: You son of a …

(Jason’s Note: Harold doesn’t say much… and Vince… well Vince kinda has a world of his own up in his head… so he pretty much had a whole argument with himself, sorta. He was being a dork as always and didn’t want to do the Parkour stuff… but he somehow convinced himself to do it… he puts the DO in DORK… Don’t ask.)

So anywayz, Parkour is a blast! I exaggerated on the parts where it looked like I was in pain. Even our Parkour instructor, Alvin, said that you shouldn’t be hurting if you’re doing Parkour the right way. So next time, When In Manila, do try out some Parkour and use our wonderful world as your playground! It is totally safe and fun, as long as you have a pair…
