Meatslut: Meat Done Well

Meat Slut

Before the main event, we were served one of their most creative dishes, the Chilawin (Php230). Basically, it’s a kilawing tanigue sprinkled with crushed chicharon served infused with smoke inside a mason jar! This is not your ordinary pulutan.

The first torched meat we got to try was the 54ºC Sirloin accompanied by Robuchon mashed potatoes. At only Php450, it is one heck of a bargain! Yes, it is as juicy and as tasty as it looks, and potato lovers will thoroughly enjoy the silky smooth and light-as-a-feather Robuchon style mashed potatoes.

Meat lovers will also enjoy the homemade sausage coil (Php320) cooked in its own fat, which was one of the meatiest and juiciest sausages I have ever had. I even made the mistake of trying to eat it all up, but it easily feeds a party of four! I only made it halfway anyway since the taste is too rich to finish alone.

Their most expensive cut, the 54ºC Rib-eye (Php800) is a cut to be savored and not downed! For the asking price, it is actually affordable compared to other places! The only way I can describe the taste and flavor is: beef butter. It will melt in your mouth, especially around the spinalis part of the cut. It is good enough as it is; no need for the gravy. Treat yourself and eat it as it is and enjoy bliss.

Of course, before their best cut of beef, we also tried the Melting Salmon (Php550) with caper-avocado dressing and caviar – another refreshing dish as we were slowly becoming all beefed-out.

The house favorite is their most affordable steak, the 72 Hours Rib Short Plate (Php380). It is their best seller not because it is the most affordable one, but because it is the tastiest of the bunch! It is cooked in its own juices for 72 hours, tenderizing the usually tough rib short plate while giving the most flavor. When it comes to the Rib-eye and Rib Short Plate, it is a toss-up for me.

With Chef Ryan Ganzon and Pastry Chef Ann Melody Chua, Measlut is in good hands in this increasingly competitive food market. Marikina has always been a food town for those in the know, and a tour de force on its own. I often visit Tra Vinh in Quezon City for some of the most delicious bowls of pho. Now, Measlut will be on my permanent list whenever I am in a mood for a tasty piece of beef.
