‘Basag Salamin Gang’ Strikes Again!

Recently, we shared a story of a theft that happened in the vicinity of a church. A car was parked in broad daylight within the premises of Padre Pio Chapel in Libis, Quezon City. The car’s backed window was smashed and cash left inside the vehicle were stolen.

Another similar incident done by window-smashing thieves dubbed as “Basag Salamin Gang,’ happened in a paid parking lot in Eton Centris Walk.

Here’s the full account of the victim.

I’m sharing this for everyone to be extra vigilant with their valuables left inside the car.

Yesterday (January 25), 8:00pm, I parked the car at Eton Centris Walk paid parking. Got my gym bag, doubled checked to make sure all doors are locked before leaving. What were inside the car i.e. MacBook Pro with charger, Seagate 1 TB External harddrive, work bag, clothes, notebooks, important files and documents were gone in a jiffy. It hurts terribly because files and photos were there. What made me irate was, I parked at a paid parking thinking it was safer to do so. It proved to be a terrible mistake as parking attendants were not vigilant and visible in the area.

Came back around 10:11pm and was shocked to find out that the back right side mirror of the passenger seat was shattered into pieces. All my things were gone. Apparently, I had been victimized by “Basag Salamin Gang” I had sought and reported the incident to the security.

Eton Centris Walk, we, customers, are paying the right amount as stated in your parking ticket. We expect your company to ensure the safety of our vehicles —
1. There were no CCTVs all throughout the parking lot. How did you renew your business permit? Last 2014, the “No CCTV, No Business Permit” policy was fully implemented in Quezon City.
2. Only one (1) guard was roving in the entire +/- 3500sqm parking lot.
3. The whole parking lot was poorly/inadequately lit and some lights were even malfunctioning.

Lessons learned:
1. Never ever leave valuables inside the car or at least keep them inside the trunk.
2. Heavily tint your car.
3. Make sure to park near the cashier in a booth or a place with a lot of people.

Accompanying the story are photos of the smashed car window.

Please be vigilant when parking your car. As much as possible, don’t leave valuables inside. Parked in well-lit areas.

What other tips can you suggest to avoid this from happening?
