Come on, come all to the week-long celebration of Biochemistry and its wonders. The UP Biochemistry Society invites you to “Zipzalabim: Unzipping the Potential of the Genome” from February 3 to 7, 2020 at the College of Arts & Sciences, UP Manila. Come witness a phantasmagoria of fun activities unfold before your very eyes!
The event aims to showcase the different trends and innovations in the field of Chemistry and Biochemistry. It also highlights a major step in the organization’s pursuit of the propagation of the said fields to the UP Manila community.
There will be six major activities throughout the week starting with Graduate School Talk conducted by Department of Physical Sciences and Mathematics (DPSM) professors as they share their experiences and advice for graduate school. This will be followed by Alumni Talk where UP Biochemistry alumni talk about life after undergraduate school.
On the third day, several UP Manila professors will showcase their researches related to Chemistry and Biochemistry in Colloquium. The day after will be the Symposium by guest speakers from various fields relevant to genetics. Chemazing race will then be held on the fifth day in which groups of Biochemistry students compete in an amazing race as they answer chemistry-related questions or accomplishment of tasks to move on to succeeding stations in order to unlock the final puzzle.
Finally, the week will be concluded by La Chimie, an annual inter-senior high Chemistry quiz bee. It targets to heighten the knowledge in Chemistry and Biochemistry of senior high school students. It fosters a healthy competition and interaction among students from different schools around the nation.
Booths showcasing this year’s theme prepared by the different BS Biochemistry undergraduate students will also be open throughout the week.
The University of the Philippines Biochemistry Society (UPBCS) is a socio-scientific non-profit organization based at the University of the Philippines – Manila College of Arts and Sciences. The members are drawn together in pursuit of academic excellence and desire to embody their principles and ideas to further the cause of science and technology in the University and in the society.
