Has your pet gotten the 5-in-1 canine vaccination yet? Vets Plus shares that they have seen an increase in patients coming in with Parvovirus, Distemper and Leptospirosis in the last few weeks. In an effort to help stop the spread of these illnesses and to avoid an outbreak, they have therefore decided to host a low cost vaccination run this August.
Camille Sarte, Chief Operations Officer at Vets Plus, warns that “these deadly illnesses can be fatal, but they are easily avoidable when dogs follow a proper vaccination program. We hope that by offering a more affordable option, we lower the chances of dogs coming in our clinic sick and needing treatment. We would rather prevent an illness from happening – avoid suffering for the pet and owner – than treating it after it has been acquired!”
The vaccination run will be held on August 7, 14, 21, and 18, strictly between 3PM to 8PM.
Parvovirus, distemper, and leptospirosis are considered three of the most serious diseases a dog can get. The first two are contagious viral illnesses that can affect a dog’s cardiac, respiratory, gastrointestinal and central nervous systems. The latter is caused by a bacteria found commonly in soil and water.
“Dogs are very resilient creatures so when obvious symptoms appear, it’s possible that they have been feeling unwell for a while,” Camille noted. “The thing with dogs is that they can’t speak for themselves; they can’t tell us when they are sick. The best thing we can do as dog owners is make sure that they are protected from common illnesses (through proper vaccination) and do our due diligence of coming in for scheduled check-ups.”
Aside from completing a vaccination program, Vets Plus also recommends annual checkups for pediatric/teen dogs (8 weeks to 2 years of age), and twice a year for young adults (3 to 5 years of age) and seniors (6 years onwards).
