Yamaha Motor Philippines commemorated the recent triumph of Gilas Pilipinas at the 19th Asian Games through a celebration attended by media, motovloggers, and guests at the Park Inn by Radisson Hotel last October 10, 2023.
The event titled “Yamaha ToughFest” was graced by Gilas Pilipinas players CJ Perez, Calvin Oftana, and Chris Newsome as well as Coach Richard Del Rosario who all expressed their gratitude for the enduring support that Yamaha Motor Philippines has given them since the FIBA qualifying rounds. This partnership, highlighted by the Mio Gear “Play Your Tough” campaign, is a testament to Yamaha’s passion for supporting Filipino athletes and recognizing the toughness it requires to achieve success as monumental as the basketball team’s Asian Games win which ended the country’s 61-year wait for the gold.

“Yamaha has been sponsoring and supporting Gilas Pilipinas when times were tough. And it’s only fitting that we celebrate with Gilas Pilipinas now that the times are great,” said Coach Richard while addressing the Yamaha team and event attendees. “The road was not easy and we had to battle a lot of adversities. But again, right now, we’re feeling a lot of joy that we’re able to give you joy–to the millions of Filipinos here and abroad.”
The “Yamaha ToughFest” event also got players CJ, Calvin, and Chris to share some insight into what their gold medal win meant to them and what it took to get to that unforgettable moment.
“We want everyone out there to know that we really care about playing for the national team. It means a lot to us and for us to bring back the gold medal, it’s such an honor and we want you guys to know that we’re doing this for you, we’re doing this for our families, our loved ones. We hope that we made everybody proud,” Chris expressed. “This is an experience that we’re gonna remember for the rest of our lives. Though there were a lot of ups and downs and emotions that go within the process, something like this, coming out with the gold, makes it all worth it.”

To further show their appreciation for Yamaha Motor Philippines, the Gilas Pilipinas players and Coach Richard presented them with a gift of a framed jersey which they all signed on the spot.
The event ended with a toast to Yamaha Motor Philippines and Gilas Pilipinas, further cementing their continued partnership in the years to come with the goal of inspiring all Filipinos—from basketball fans to motor riders—to be their toughest selves no matter what challenge comes their way.

Congratulations to Gilas Pilipinas!
