The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) is in talks with Hollywood star Tom Cruise to make the first movie shot in space. This development was revealed by NASA administrator Jim Bridenstine.
The details of the movie arenโt clear yet but Bridenstine confirmed that the movie will be shot aboard the International Space Station.
Bridenstine wrote on Twitter:
NASA is excited to work with @TomCruise on a film aboard the @Space_Station! We need popular media to inspire a new generation of engineers and scientists to make @NASAโs ambitious plans a reality. pic.twitter.com/CaPwfXtfUv

We aren’t sure yet what Cruise will be doing in this historic adventure but heโs popular for doing increasingly impressive stunts in his recent films such as clutching the side of an Airbus A400ย as it takes off in 2015โsย Mission: Impossible โ Rogue Nation. It sounds about right that to bring his stunt to the next level, he needs to go into outer space.
NASA declined to provide more details. โWe will say more about the project at the appropriate time,โ a NASA spokesperson toldย The Verge. โAnything else would be premature.โ
SpaceX CEO Elon Musk replied on Bridenstine’s tweet, “Should be a lot of fun!”
