Wesley So’s team wins 2020 PRO Chess League championship

Grandmaster Wesley So and his team won the 2020 PRO Chess League championship after opponent’s violations.

This win comes after a thorough investigation by Chess.com’s Fair Play team. It determined that the Armenia Eagles, specifically, Tigran Petrosian cheated on both the semifinal and final matches.

According to Chess.com, “After a thorough investigation, Chess.com’s Fair Play team determined that GM Tigran L. Petrosian, who played for the Armenia Eagles, violated fair play regulations during games in both the semifinal and final matches that took place on September 25 and 27, respectively.”

Petrosian was disqualified and stripped of the title. Chess.com and the PRO Chess League have also banned Petrosian for life. The Armenia Eagles team has also been banned from participating in the league for an indefinite period.

The 2020 title is the third title overall for the Saint Louis Arch Bishops and their second consecutive championship.
