Eternals, according to Kevin Feige, Marvel’s Studios president, is about “a group of immortals who have been on Earth for 35,000 years.” The group “been there amongst the MCU,” the executive also shared at 2019’s San Diego Comic-Con. Of course, to Marvel comic fans, the Eternals are not new. They were first introduced in the comics in 1976 by creator Jack Kirby.
Eternals will be starring Game of Thrones star Richard Madden as Ikaris, Salma Hayek as a gender-swapped version of Ajak (who is male in the comics), Angelina Jolie as the warrior Thena, Crazy Rich Asian‘s Gemma Chan as the witch Sersi, Train to Busan‘s Don Lee as Gilgamesh, The Walking Dead‘s Lauren Ridloff as a gender-flipped version of Makkari (also male in the comics), Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo, Lia McHugh as a gender-swapped version of Sprite (who is originally male in the comics), Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos, and Barry Keoghan as Druig.
The cast will also be joined by another Game of Thrones star, Kit Harington, who will play Dane Whitman, a non-Eternal, who will eventually become Black Knight.
Eternals is directed by Oscar-award winning director Chloe Zhao, and will hit the theaters in November 5, 2021.
