AlDub, the kalyeserye love team between Alden Richards and Dubsmash Queen Maine Mendoza is the hottest thing on local television. What started as a segment on Eat Bulaga has blown into a super love team that resulted in 2.15 million tweets in one episode, and just as many fans all over the Philippines and even the world.

Even the Hey Joe Show got in on this worldwide craze. The online show composed of five Americans who speak fluent Bisaya produced a short film where each member is secretly obsessed with the AlDub tandem. They each go out of their way to hide it, without knowing that the other members are also big fans.

The Hey Joe Show is composed of Sumner, Connor, Jake, Tylan and Davis, five Americans who spent two years as humanitarian missionaries in Negros, Bohol, and Cebu. The show started when the boys wanted to show the beauty of the Philippines. It turned out that AlDub tandem was the next thing to be featured.

The kalyeserye is an improv soap opera known for its split screen frame (the two have not yet met) and Mendoza’s dubbing of lines from popular songs and films. According to Nielsen ratings, Eat Bulaga enjoyed a 300% increase in its viewership, including the highest of the year when Richards and Mendoza almost met. It is now also being taught in class at the University of the Philippines.
